Young photographer shortlisted for top prize thanks to snap taken at Croome in Worcester

THE SNAP of a bee on an adventure around Croome in Worcester saw a budding young photographer shortlisted for a top prize.

Orla Roundell was short listed for the Young Photographer of the Year prize in the Royal Society of Biology’s annual photography competition.

The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Transforming Life’.

Orla took her photo at the National Trust property and entered it into the prestigious competition under the title “Busy Bee transforming the landscape (A western honey bee on Cow parsley)”.

There were over 1,000 entries in total with just nine photos shortlisted. Two amateur photographers went on to be chosen as winners – one for the RSB Photographer of the Year, and one for the RSB Young Photographer of the Year.

Orla said: “A busy bee pollinating flowers that transform the landscape. Bees play such a crucial role in transforming life through their pollination. I watched this bee and others travel from plants in the meadow and felt this photograph, where the bee is on his adventure, was the best one.”
