WORCESTERSHIRE County Council’s summer reading challenge saw over 3,000 children sign up.
The challenge was developed by The Reading Agency and invited youngsters aged four to 11 to read six or more books over the summer holiday.
It aimed to improve literacy skills, maintain reading levels and encourage a love of reading.
The theme of this years challenge was ‘Marvellous Makers’ and it will end on September 14.
Hannah Perrott, assistant director for communities at Worcestershire County Council said: “We are delighted to see such a fantastic number of children taking part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. Reading is a vital skill that opens a world of opportunities, and it is wonderful to see our young people so engaged and enthusiastic about books.
“We would like to extend our thanks to the parents, carers, and library staff who support and encourage children throughout the challenge.
“Their efforts play a crucial role in making this initiative a success year after year.”
The Council’s library team will be at National Trust Croome on August 13 from 11am – 3pm for a story time session, bookmark decorating and chars about the challenge.
