Worcestershire's business to benefit from energy bill price cap as Government cuts prices by half

ENERGY bills for businesses in Worcestershire and across the UK will be cut by around half their expected level this winter under a mammoth government support package.

The Energy Bill Relief Scheme will fix gas and electricity prices for all firms for six months from October 1.

Hospitals, schools, charities and other settings such as community halls and churches will also get help.

It comes after the government announced a £150bn plan to help households with their soaring bills for two years and the Government hope the latest support will avoid mass bankruptcies and job losses across industries.

Under the Department for Business, Energy and Industry scheme wholesale prices are expected to be fixed for all non-domestic energy customers at £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for gas for six months.

Prime Minister Liz Truss said: “I understand the huge pressure businesses, charities and public sector organisations are facing with their energy bills, which is why we are taking immediate action to support them over the winter and protect jobs and livelihoods.”

The Government will publish a review into the operation of the scheme in three months to inform decisions on future support after March 2023. The review will focus in particular on identifying the most vulnerable non-domestic customers and how the government will continue assisting them with energy costs.
