Worcester swan feeding project receives Kindness donation

Worcester Editorial 28th Dec, 2023   0

PLATFORM Housing Group, has donated £150 to help feed Worcester’s swans during the festive season.

The donation is part of Platform Housing Group’s Annual Christmas Kindness Campaign which will see the organisation donate £60,000 to support various local food banks, events, specialist organisations and charities.

The Swan Food Project, entirely run by volunteers, was founded in 2014 to help people learn about and understand swans and also improve the diet and environment of swans in Worcester’s Swan Sanctuary, which is a stretch of the River Severn in the heart of Worcester, set aside for swans in the early 1980’s.

John Weguelin, Chair of Platform Housing Group’s Board said:

“It’s great that this small donation from Platform’s Christmas Kindness Campaign will enable local people and families to enjoy feeding the swans during the festive season.

“Swans have been part of Worcester’s history for generations and The Swan Food Project and it’s volunteers play a pivotal role in ensuring that these beautiful, majestic animals will continue to sail along the River Severn for all to enjoy, for the next 100 years and beyond.”

The Swan Feeding Project is run by Marilyn McCarthy, who added:

“We very much appreciate Platform’s kindness in donating £150 to sponsor our Big Christmas Swan Feed.

“Both Platform and The Swan Food Project, would also like to remember their late shared volunteer Jean Etheridge, and all who have shared their time and skills to make Worcester a happier and more caring place.”
