Worcester revamp has brought new life into city centre

Worcester Editorial 31st Aug, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A REVAMP of a popular area of the city centre began this week.

As part of Worcestershire County Council’s public realm improvement programme, Upper Broad Street, between Crowngate Passage and the junction with The Cross and the High Street, is undergoing improvement works until Friday, November 18.

Running overnight, the works include improving surfacing materials, upgrading street furniture and increasing the areas that are restricted to pedestrian-only use.

Three Rowan trees, which were lifting the pavement, have already been removed and access to all Broad Street businesses throughout the works will remain open.

Coun Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for economy, skills and infrastructure, said: “Similar improvement work along Worcester’s High Street has already brought new life into the city centre, resulting in increased footfall and a boost to the local economy.

“Enhancements to Angel Place, Lowesmoor and the Cornmarket have also played a major role in the rejuvenation of the city centre.

“We’ve carefully planned the Upper Broad Street works to minimise disruption over the coming weeks and ensure Broad Street remains open for business.”

The overnight work will run from 7pm to 6am.
