PEDAL-powered pupils at North Worcester Primary School have been celebrating the third anniversary of their bike bus.
Launched in March 2022, ‘bike bus’ has been running at the school every Friday morning to give children and their families the opportunity to cycle to school together safely.
Since that first ride to school three years ago, the initiative has grown in popularity with large numbers of children and their families joining in with the weekly cycle.
Katie Collier, one of the parents who founded Bike Bus, said: “Our very first bike bus involved just four families of children who were in reception class together and it’s grown from there. We wanted to make the school run active and fun, as well as making it clear there is demand for safer cycling infrastructure.”
Daisey Wallis and her son, Thomas, joined the bike bus when Thomas started school and now participate every week.
Daisey added: “Thomas wakes up every morning and asks if it is bike bus day- he loves it. It has been such a wonderful way for him to get to know children from other classes and make new friends. The bike bus community is very important to us.”
Following the success of the bike bus initiative at North Worcester Primary Academy, schools all over Worcester have launched bike buses supported by Bike Worcester volunteers.
