A WORCESTER police officer has been dismissed from the force for gross misconduct after he engaged in inappropriate contact with vulnerable adults he met whilst on duty.

West Mercia Police Constable Matthew Caesar, who had been with the force for seven years and was mostly based in South Worcestershire, was dismissed with immediate effect following a public misconduct hearing that concluded today (Monday).

The hearing, which was conducted by Douglas Readings, an independent legally qualified chair, follows a Professional Standards Investigation which was launched after allegations Caesar had engaged in inappropriate contact with vulnerable adult victims.

It was alleged Caesar met the victims whilst on duty and had used electronic police systems inappropriately.

Detective Superintendent Gary Watson, Head of Professional Standards for Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police said: “The Misconduct Hearing found that the behaviour of Police Constable Matthew Caesar fell below the standards we expect from our officers and staff and amounted to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour, namely Honesty and Integrity, Discreditable Conduct, Confidentiality and Authority, Respect and Courtesy.

“This fell outside the expectations made clear in our Code of Ethics and it is for this reason he was dismissed.”
