Worcester is happiest city in UK - report

Worcester Editorial 9th Mar, 2017 Updated: 10th Mar, 2017   0

WORCESTER has been ranked the UK’s happiest city after residents scored it highly on how welcoming it is and how much its people trust each other.

The results, which put the Faithful City top of the pile above Wrexham and York with a rating of 7.47, were recently revealed by Provident Personal Credit’s ‘Unbroken Britain’ survey.

As well as being first for happiness, Worcester scored highly across all the categories in the survey, being rated as the third best in the UK and the second best in England for its upkeep and ninth for its level of safety.

The survey also placed Worcester in the top 20 places in the friendly and polite categories.

The Mayor of Worcester, Coun Paul Denham, said: “Worcester is a great place to live and it’s getting better.

“We have low crime rates, high employment and an excellent offer for sport, shopping, leisure, arts, heritage and dining.

“We’re going from strength-to-strength. We’ve just opened a competition-standard swimming pool at the new £10.5million Perdiswell Leisure Centre, while the new £20million Cathedral Square shopping and leisure development will bring a massive boost to the city centre later in the year.

“We’re also making the most of our reputation for heritage with a £500,000 revamp of one of our oldest buildings, The Commandery, to turn it into a national Civil War-themed tourist attraction.”
