Worcester carer wins luxury car and £20,000 cash

AN IDENTICAL twin from Worcester who cares for his mother full time and hasn’t been able to afford a car for a decade was left close to tears after scooping an incredible £87,000 prize thanks to dream car competition BOTB.

Martin Hook, 56, who is on crutches after tearing a ligament in his leg, will not need to walk anywhere again after winning a high-performance Porsche Cayenne e-hybrid worth over £67,000 plus £20,000 in cash in BOTB’s weekly supercar giveaway.

He was presented with his new wheels at home by his identical twin brother, Phil, who joined BOTB’s Christian Williams when he delivered his trademark surprise.

Martin was so shocked by the knock at his door that he forgot to put on any shoes and walked down the street barefoot, on crutches, to be shown his prize.

“I just can’t believe it,” Martin said. “Words can’t describe how over the moon I am. I’ve had such a bad few years and this has truly changed my life.

“I lost my dad last year, and I care full time for my mum, who is 88 and suffers from dementia,” Martin explained.

“I haven’t been able to afford a car for 10 years. Instead, I put the little I can afford into playing BOTB.

“Living at home can feel like a prison at times for both my mum and I. Playing BOTB was my little escape from reality. Now my dream is my reality and I can take my mum out for a trip to the countryside and give her some much-needed stimulation. This is truly life-changing for both of us.”

Martin said the £20,000 cash prize would also have a huge impact on his life.

“My carer’s allowance isn’t much so the cash prize will really make a difference. I used to be really into photography and I lived out in Singapore for some time so maybe I’ll treat myself to a new camera and a holiday. There’s so much possibility, I’m not sure what to do. But what a lovely problem to have.”

BOTB was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has handed over the keys to more than £22m worth of supercars.

Listed on the stock market, BOTB has high-profile stands at airports and in Britain’s biggest shopping centres, with 75% of all people playing online at BOTB.com.

“I’ve been playing BOTB since it started 1999 and have always dreamed of winning. I can’t believe I now get to choose the spec of my own car. I’ve even been out with a measuring tape making sure it will fit in the drive!

“You see people win every week and they say how happy they are, but I can’t express how overjoyed I am to have won. This really changes everything.”

BOTB presenter Christian Williams, who delivered the good news, said Martin was a worthy winner: “This couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. And with everything that has happened in Martin’s life, this is a blessing for him and his family.”
