Worcester art company awarded £10,000 funding

A WORCESTER art company have been awarded a grant for £10,000 by the national lottery community fund.

Artist Clubhouse, launched by Emily Johnson, focus on offering people who are experiencing low-level mental health issues, the opportunity to explore often undiscovered creative potential to overcome feelings of anxiety and low-level depression.

Earlier this year Artists Clubhouse had a short exhibition at the Artery Studios.

The exhibition contained art and creative work from 158 local people who attended their Creative Club workshops and over 100 further people came to the exhibition.

Emily said: “We encouraged visitors to ‘have a go’ at a form of art.

“Almost all protested that they were no good but to their surprise they found out that being creative was about far more than perceived talent, instead realising the joy in the process

“This project is simply developing this idea.

“There are so many different mediums and and activities that we can introduce to people, and at least one of these will help someone explore forms of self-expression and relaxation – and as an added bonus some lovely new friendships will be established too.”

Emily said this round of funding is another important step in helping her to continue to develop her growing reputation for imaginative and creative opportunities for local people.

For Community Boost, the organisation which has helped generate over £2million in grant funding for Worcester charities and community organisations, said this is another success story.

Keith Slater, the man behind Community Boost, said he was equally delighted that his organisation has being supported by Worcester City Council’s community grants programme.

The funding is helping Community Boost to work with any city-based voluntary and community group over the next nine months.
