GREEN-FINGERED members of Worcester’s women’s Premier Rugby side the Worcester Valkyries scrummed down in Dines Green thanks to sponsorship from St John’s county councillor Richard Udall
Benedicte Williams and England international Lark Davies joined Coun Udall, local children and their parents with a litter pick at the Dines Green play area and followed it up with an hour of rugby training and fun for all the children involved.
“We filled a number of bin liners with rubbish it’s fair to say we were shocked at the amount of rubbish we collected, nearly half of it was alcohol related, including a lot of broken glass from beer bottles,” said Coun Udall.
Valkyries will be turning up every Monday throughout the summer holidays at the Dines Green Community Centre between 10am and midday. Each week they will be collecting rubbish and playing rugby with local children.
“I’m a keen supporter of local rugby and I am delighted to have brought Valkyries players into the Dines Green community; they will be helping with a number of community projects and will hopefully bring rugby to a new generation of boys and girls,” said Coun Udall.
“Without their support many children may never have had an opportunity to play; who knows the next generation of Worcester rugby players may just be coming from Dines Green.”
