WORCESTER WOLVES wheelchair basketball club is in with a chance of winning £200,000 funding after making it through to the final stages of the Persimmon Homes Health Communities Scheme competition.
The vote winners for the cash prize will be announced on March 16.
The funds will go towards buying the club members new wheelchairs and better transport for them and their equipment. Residents of Worcester are being urged to get behind the team and vote to help the club be chosen over the 29 other finalists in the competition.
The wheelchair basketball team’s coach Adam McMullen said he believed wheelchair basketball was the biggest disability sport in the world, adding he strongly believed the club broke down barriers between all young people with and without disabilities.
The club currently has over 40 members including a national league team and two women’s league teams, each with 12 players assigned to them.
Mr McMullen said he was thrilled to have made it to this stage.
“We are urging people to back us in this competition and take the time to vote as such a large amount of money would be a real game changer for our group.”
Andy Peters, managing director for Persimmon Homes, said: “The aim of the scheme is to help create a sporting legacy and we believe Worcester Wolves Wheelchair Basketball Club could do this if they win the £200,000.”
