A WORCESTER teenager has put her name in the frame for success after she scooped the top prize at the RSPCA’s ‘People’s Choice’ photo competition.
Henrietta Wood’s stunning picture of her pet dog was one of thirteen animal snaps taken by youngsters ranging from aged 9 to 18-years-old which were shortlisted for the animal charity’s competition.
A total of nearly 4,000 votes were cast online by members of the public with Henrietta’s eye-catching photo achieving the most votes.
As winner of the RSPCA People’s Choice competition – part of the animal charity’s annual Young Photographer Awards – Henrietta will receive a trophy and £100 worth of vouchers from Wex Photo Video
Henrietta said: “Taken on an IPhone SE, this picture captures my lively, yet greedy pet Jess. She is a Labrador springer spaniel-cross and this sums her up – she can be found dreaming (even whimpering and twitching) about her daily adventures. I was so shocked I managed to take this picture of Jess – she is as fast as lightning so taking one of her mid-chase is incredible!”
In December 2018, an official judging panel – made up of photographic experts including RSPCA vice president Chris Packham and several industry professionals – announced the overall winners of the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2018.
In part two of the competition there was a special online poll, named ‘People’s Choice’, for the public to pick their winning photo from thirteen entries – including the entry from winner Henrietta Wood – from the Mobile Phone and Devices category featuring three age groups of Under 12s, 12-15s and 16-18 year olds plus the Picture Perfect Pets category.
