VICTIMS of crime are to receive extra support as West Mercia’s Witness Care Unit gets a funding boost.
There is currently a backlog of court case in the region, leading to trials being delayed.
The funding will enable two extra members of staff to join the Witness Care Unit, to mitigate the impact of the backlog on victims of crime.
At the latest accountability session between PCC John Campion and Chief Constable Pippa Mills it was confirmed the force was putting victims and witnesses first by improving compliance with the Victims’ Code of Practice and increasing referrals into PCC-funded the Victim Advice Line.
PCC John Campion said: “I want victims to get the best possible service from their police force.”
He welcomed the positive steps taken by the Chief Constable but said he accepted more needed to be done to ensure the voice and needs of victims were always put first.
