WEST Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner has set out his vision for the force area for the next three years after being re-elected.

John Campion was officially sworn in last Friday at a socially-distanced ceremony broadcast live on Facebook and officiated by Megan Harrison, Chair of the Bench in Worcestershire.

Mr Campion said he wanted to build on the success from his previous term, adding he was committed to ensuring communities were at the heart of policing and the people within them felt safe and were safe where they lived and worked.

“The day after I re-elected I was straight back into the office eager to carry on.

“However, to be sworn in allows me to make an official declaration that outlines the commitments I will make whilst in office.

“I once again thank the communities of West Mercia for backing me and trusting that I will continue to put them at the very heart of the decisions I make on behalf of them.”

As part of the oath he made, he vowed to act with integrity and diligence to the best of his ability to cut crime and protect the public.

He added: “I will give a voice to the public, especially victims of crime, and work with other services to ensure the safety of the community and effective criminal justice.

“I will take all steps within my power to ensure transparency of my decisions, so that I may be properly held to account by the public.”

He concluded by promising to ‘not interfere with the operation independence of police officers’.
