Walkers would be wise to get fit before county challenge

RAMBLERS are set to take on a challenging trek across Worcestershire to support hospice care throughout the county.

Organised by St Richard’s Hospice, the event will see keen walkers take part in the Worcestershire Way Walk and either individually or as a team, take on the epic 31-mile ‘till dusk trek on June 17.

This year’s challenge will begin at 6am in Bewdley and walkers will stride out across the Worcestershire countryside before a tough finish on the slopes of the Malvern Hills.

Alison Parkes, senior fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “This event has been running now for 11 years and is always very popular. Some of our dedicated supporters take on the Worcestershire Way challenge year after year and there is always a great team spirit and camaraderie. This isn’t an event for the faint-hearted, and we certainly recommend some training beforehand.

She said: “Many people take on this challenge in memory of someone special, as a way of saying thank you for the hospice care they received. But often at the end of the walk they realise that they have achieved something fantastic for themselves too.”

The event costs £10 to enter but relies on sponsorship and donations to be successful. The money raised will help St Richard’s Hospice continue to care for patients at the end of their lives, and support their families.
