A PUB goer who headbutted another man without any provocation has been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
Bobby Ben Smith, of Orchard Grove, Littleworth, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court last Friday (March 13) for attacking Billy Martin in Lloyd’s Bar.
Prosecution solicitor Lesley Ashton told the court Mr Martin was out with friends in the city centre bar when Smith went up to him and started being verbally abusive.
Smith believed Mr Martin had insulted him, which the victim denied, and so he attacked him.
Mr Martin’s friends then intervened and Smith was removed from the bar.
The 22-year-old was identified by staff members to the police and he was arrested soon after.
Defence solicitor Sam Lamsdale said: “Mr Smith is not someone that is a thug but he is someone that drank to excess which lead to this matter.”
She also told magistrates Smith had not drank in a long time but on this occasion he had started and could not stop. He has referred himself to Pathways and has also been diagnosed with ADHD and tested for bipolar.
Smith, who pleaded guilty to the assault charge, was handed a 12 month community sentence where he will have to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to Mr Martin along with a £60 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
After sentencing Smith, chair of the bench John Chester, said: “Get these matters out of the way and go and get on with your life.”
