THE UNIVERSITY of Worcester is hoping to beat off the competition after being shortlisted for two nursing awards at an annual ceremony.

Recognised as one of the country’s leading providers of nursing education, Worcester has been nominated in the Nurse Education Provider of the Year and student Stuart Frost has also been put forward in the Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year category.

Robert Dudley, head of nursing, midwifery and paramedic science at the University, said: “To be shortlisted for this prestigious event is a tremendous achievement and recognises the very outstanding work of students, university staff and our practice partners.”

Stuart, who is a Student Academic Representative and Student Ambassador for pre-registration Nursing, has also helped start and develop events designed to provide future students with an insight into the profession.

“I feel very proud to have been shortlisted,” he said. “It must be recognised there are many student nurses from this and every other university who could have been put forward, as I’m positive each and every student nurse is inspirational in some way to their patients and peers alike.

“In a time when nursing is becoming tarnished by isolate incidents, it is important the public see a new generation of nurses coming through who are willing to work, learn and inspire.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the London Hilton, on Park lane, on May 1.
