THE UNIVERSITY of Worcester has been shortlisted as Nurse Education Provider of the Year in the annual Student Nursing Times Awards.

Now the fourth consecutive nomination the university has received in this category, the prestigious event pays tribute to student nurses who have demonstrated academic achievement and clinical prowess, as well as outstanding nurse education programmes, mentors, lecturers and providers of placements.

Dr Jan Quallington, Head of the University’s Institute of Health and Society, said: “We are very proud to be shortlisted for the fourth year in his category. At Worcester we are committed to educating students who can work confidently, competently and compassionately across the different fields of practice. We prepare students with the skills and attitudes that will enable them to continue to care effectively today and to be nurse leaders in the future, as services, treatments and patients’ needs change.

“Our staff are highly committed to nurturing and supporting students as individuals to realise their potential as independent practitioners and to ultimately flourish in their chosen field of practice.”

She added: “An essential feature of nurse education in Worcester is embedded within the compassionate ethos of the University, is the integration of ‘ethical reflection’ and the strong focus on values-led care which is at the heart of teaching on this course.”

The University’s health facilities have recently been enhanced by the addition of new Clinical Simulation Suites on campus, plus a Mobile Skills Laboratory and a training ambulance, in which the healthcare professionals of the future can hone their skills in a realistic environment.

Third year Mental Health Nursing student, Charlotte Faulkner, said: “The University of Worcester’s nursing pre-registration programme is at the forefront of nursing education and training because as a team they are continuously aiming to create a dynamic course that equips students to become successful, compassionate and safe practitioners for the future.

“I believe the programme ignites enthusiasm and drive. It fosters an environment where students are empowered to grow and develop their individual interests, which are supported from day one, all the way through to graduation.”

The Student Nursing Times Awards evening will take place on April 28 at London’s Park Lane Hilton.
