AN ARREST has been made after a man wielding an axe robbed two shops in Worcester.
Police were called to Lichfield Avenue shortly before 3pm on Thursday (February 6) following a report a man had entered a store with an axe. A quantity of cash was stolen from the till and the man left the store.
While responding to the first incident, officers received a report of a second robbery – involving a man with an axe – on Astwood Road at around 5.30pm. Cash and tobacco were stolen from the shop.
No one was injured during either of the incidents.
Following a search of the area, officers located an axe which had been hidden underneath a van nearby. A short time later, another axe and boxes of tobacco were recovered from an address in Worcester.
Detective Chief Inspector James Bamber from Worcester said: “Thankfully, no one was injured during either of the robberies and officers swiftly recovered weapons which we believe to have been involved.
“Extensive enquiries continued and led to the arrest of a man on Friday February 7. The 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody.
“We are not currently looking to identify anyone else in relation to the incidents.”
