Two more to join the trail

A MUCH-ANTICIPATED arts trail to raise cash for St Richard’s Hospice has been boosted with a host of new backers.

A new travel agency is set to embark on a giraffe-themed journey after signing-up to sponsor the Worcester Stands Tall art trail. The recently-opened arrangeMY escape in Mealcheapen Street has sponsored a giraffe sculpture for the 10-week trail in July.

The agency joins a large group of sponsors on board with the project – which will see at least 25, imaginatively decorated sculptures stand tall through the city.

Worcester Stands Tall is a Wild in Art event brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice which will eventually auction the sculptures to raise funds for its free care to patients living with life limiting illnesses, their loved ones and bereaved people.

Jennifer Lynch, general manager of the travel firm, said: “We cannot wait to see our beautifully-designed giraffe standing tall in our community for an organisation so close to our hearts.

“We are extremely proud to be part of the showcase and look forward to seeing the all the good it will bring to St Richard’s, while welcoming all the visitors it brings to our wonderful city.”

Simon Scott, chief executive officer, said: “The project has such a buzz that surrounds it and similar trails have had so much success in other large cities – it was only right that we got involved.”

Accompanying the large sculptures will be giraffe calves, decorated by school children, winding through Crowngate Shopping Centre.

Once the trail has ended, each sculpture will go under the hammer in October by auctioneers drp to raise money for the St Richard’s Hospice’s Build 2020 Appeal which hopes to raise the £1.4million needed to complete a much-needed extension at the hospice on Wildwood Drive.

Dale Parmenter, from drp, said: “This is such a fantastic fund-raising event and a brilliant cause, we are very proud to be a part of it and look forward to having a lot of fun with the project.”

The company which has won numerous industry awards, will also have a dedicated sculpture on the trail alongside those backed by sponsors from across Worcestershire.

Sara Matthews, Worcester Stands Tall Project Manager, said: “It’s going to be great working with such an innovative agency and we’re excited to see what the partnership brings this year.

“We just know the auction event will be a night to remember and we’re looking forward to raising as much money as we can for the hospice’s Build 2020 Appeal.”
