THE HEARTBROKEN family of a young Worcester father who died from serious injuries after a ‘tragic accident’ leaving a city bar have paid tribute to their beloved son

James Acheson-Hill passed away on Sunday, January 19 after the accidental fall at Heroes in Friar Street shortly after 10pm the previous evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly and the 27-year-old was taken to hospital. It’s believed Mr Acheson-Hill fell down steps in the bar.

West Mercia Police confirmed an investigation had been carried out and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A file has been prepared for the coroner and an inquest into the 27-year-old’s death will be held in the summer.

In a statement released by police, his grieving parents said: “James was a devoted father to his son Eddie, a much loved brother to Niamh and a beloved son to us both.

“He was always thinking of others and putting them before himself. He had a great many friends which he was still in contact with from school and was a keen Liverpool FC supporter and would regularly go to Anfield with his friends to watch his team play.

“He loved his work as a senior applications engineer at Mazak in Worcester where his colleagues have described him as a ‘rising star’.

“We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and sympathies and know James would be touched with all the love the family is receiving at this very difficult time,” they added.

Det Con Bev Hamilton said: “Unfortunately James died as a result of injuries he sustained after a tragic accident while leaving a bar in Friar Street.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and we want to convey our sympathies to the family and our thoughts remain with them at this heart-breaking time.”

The dad-of-one was a regular for Malvern Vale FC and club chiefs paid tribute to the 27-year-old in a statement on their website.

“All three of our sides all observed a minutes silence last weekend as a mark of respect for Jim who made 69 competitive appearances for the club over the last few seasons, scoring five goals,” the statement read.

“His last game was against Charlton Rovers for the Reserves back in September. Jim will be missed by all the club and our thoughts are with his family at this extremely difficult time.”
