THE DEVASTATED partner of a Worcester man who died after falling into the River Severn has paid an emotional tribute to him.

Speaking after West Mercia Police formally named the man as Alan Hampstead from Sansome Place, his partner Sarah Hampstead hailed the 52-year-old as a ‘loving, caring and kind man’.

Alan fell into the River Severn from the bridge at South Quay in the early hours of Sunday and was found dead by search and rescue teams later that day.

“Alan was a loving, caring and kind man, a partner, father and grandfather,” said Sarah.

“He loved his family and friends unconditionally and would do anything for them, and was completely loyal to them always.

“His family will remember Alan as he was, he was cheeky, he was fiery, he was loving and he could be incredibly funny, and also incredibly stubborn and was set in his ways.

“He was passionate about his CB radios, the Forest of Dean and wildlife.

“You had to really know Alan to understand the way he was and the way he saw the world around him, his view of it was not the norm.

“I am devastated beyond words that this has happened to Alan.

“Alan touched a huge amount of people’s lives and he really will be sorely missed, he never really understood how loved and liked he was, and how many peoples lives will be affected by this tragedy.

“He, was, and always will be my one and only true love and soulmate and my heart belongs to him forever, and I hope that now he is finally at peace and out of pain.

She paid tribute to everyone who tried to help Alan, especially all the emergency search and rescue team and especially to the firefighters in the boats.

“My heartfelt thanks for all you did, and continued to do in the hours following Alan’s accident until you found him.”
