AN ESTIMATED 10,000 people packed into Worcester for the annual Christmas lights switch-on event.
Music from Blobbie Williams, The Fidgets, Tom Forbes and Worcestershire Rock Choir entertained the crowds before the lights were switched on by Worcesyer Mayor Coun Paul Denham and Pudsey Bear.
BBC presenters Malcom Boyden and Elliott Webb were MC’s for the occasion which saw the switch flicked on 29 strings of lights across the city centre spanning about 350 metres.
It’s the second year Worcester City Council have hired the festive lights after last year’s discovery the old lights were beyond repair.
A city council spokesman said: “The cost of hire and installation for this year’s lights is £27,850 – considerably lower than the majority of quotes we received.
“The council went through stringent procurement processes to get the best value lights,” he added.
