MARTLEY’s cricketers and visitors will be enjoying top-notch cakes this summer, despite cricket teas disappearing in local clubs.
The team have joined with the village’s MacMillan Cake bakers to make cakes for the club every Saturday this year. in return for a sizeable donation from the club to MacMillan Cancer Support.
Club chairman Stu Watt says “The long tradition of cricket teas disappeared during covid and the majority of clubs won’t be providing anything at tea time
“But our players and visitors will be getting some superb home made cakes during the interval this summer.
“We would like to thank the ladies for providing us with such delicious cakes, and also are very happy to support such a worthy cause.”
Captains James Ganderton and Jim Basford took control of the first batch of cakes from Sue Johnson at the first pre-season game.
