Teenagers urged to team up with HITZ programme

Rob George 24th Jan, 2019   0

TEENAGERS across the city are being invited to take part in Warriors Community Foundation’s award-winning HITZ programme.

HITZ is an education and employability scheme which uses rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship to help young people who are not in education, training or employment.

HITZ provides courses which combine sport – including rugby, mixed martial arts, cricket and rounders – with learning in the classroom to help teenagers to maximise their potential by getting them back into education training, apprenticeships or employment.

Activity days such as paintballing, team-building and ten pin bowling are also included in the programme.

Last year 40 teenagers in Worcester and Kidderminster benefited from the Warriors Community Foundation’s HITZ programme and places are now available on this year’s scheme.

New employability courses for 16 to 18-year-olds will start on March 11 at two sites – Warriors’ Sixways stadium and the Kidderminster District Youth Trust centre – and will run Monday to Wednesday each week from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

Both courses will have a maths and English if needed. All learners will then have the opportunity to progress on to a yearlong level 2 B-Tec starting in September.

HITZ also offers mentoring and home support for learners who may be facing problems of any kind.

In recent years Warriors Community Foundation’s HITZ programme has helped to turn around the lives of people with mental, physical or behavioural problems, homeless people, drug users and those who may just be struggling with the transition into adult life.
