A PIONEERING figure in the technology industry will give an insight into his career at the University of Worcester business school’s annual lecture.

Businessman and philanthropist Ken Olisa OBE, who is also the Lord Lieutenant for Greater London, will speak about innovation, entrepreneurship and IT at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow (Thursday).

With a career spanning more than 30 years, Mr Olisa started work at IBM after winning a scholarship while studying at the University of Cambridge.

After 12 years as a senior executive at Wang Labs, working in both the USA and Europe, he founded Interregnum, the technology merchant bank.

Mr Olisa is currently a director of Thomson Reuters and also a past master of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.

He is also the founder and chairman of Restoration Partners, a boutique technology merchant bank and architects of the Virtual Technology Cluster model.

As well as being the founder and chairman of the Powerlist Foundation, which supports future leaders from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, Mr Olisa is patron of Thames Reach, a charity working to shelter and resettle the homeless, for which he received an OBE in 2010.

Tim Maxfield, the University of Worcester’s director of business development, said: “The business school’s annual lecture has become an established event in the local business community. This year we’re looking forward to welcoming Ken Olisa OBE.

“Mr Olisa’s inspiring story as a businessman and philanthropist has led him to become known as one of the most powerful people in Britain, so we hope his insights will prove useful to people in business at all levels.”

The event starts at 5.30pm and there will also be a question and answer session at the end.
