STUDENTS at RGS The Grange have been served a new option for break times with the purchase of several table tennis tables following a £1,000 grant from a mental health trust.
The school has teamed up with the Nathan Tomkins Trust to raise awareness of mental illness and hope the donation will also create a new sporting interest at the school and beyond.
Staff and students recently welcomed Jack Tomkins into school to talk about the trust which was formed a year ago in memory of Nathan Tomkins, a keen sportsman who sadly took his own life after dealing with depression for some time.
Two members of staff have also been invited to attend a mental health awareness day organised by the trust as part of their work in the community.
A school spokesperson said: “We recognise our important role in the community at identifying children who seem to be struggling. The pressures and stress caused by modern living and the effects that social media can have is being highlighted to parents.”
