TWO Sports Therapy students from the University of Worcester are set to travel across the pond to help out in a major football tournament.
Fran Page, 20, and Carly Parfitt, 21, both in their third year of studies, will be providing first aid cover and sports therapy support to Worcestershire County Schools FA Under 16s when they participate in the Disney Soccer Showcase Cup in Orlando, Florida.
The pair have been assisting at the club for the past two years, attending every home and away match.
“It’s really exciting to have been asked to go with the girls to this tournament, which is the biggest competition for girls’ football in America,” Fran said.
“We have built up a really good relationship with the girls and their coaches and we are so pleased to be considered an important part of their squad.”
Fran and Carly each received a £500 scholarship from the university to fund the trip which begins on December 28.
“The trip is costing £1,650 for each of us,” Carly added.
“The FA has subsidised £1,000, which meant we had to find the other £650. It’s fantastic that the University has stepped in to help us.
“It’s going to be an amazing trip.
“Not only will it be an excellent personal experience but it’s also fantastic for our employability once we’ve finished our degree. We are getting real-world experience working with a club.”
