Students debate election of President Trump

A DEBATE on the legitimacy of American President Donald Trump was held by year seven and eight students from Bishop Perowne CE College.

The debate, titled ‘The house believes that Donald Trump was the people’s choice for President and therefore was the right choice’, saw Assistant Headteacher David Kling speak in favour of the motion and Head of Year 8 Ashley Buxton against.

Students on the school’s Endeavour Programme were then given the chance to ask questions and challenge the speeches.

At the end of the debate a vote took place and the argument against the motion was deemed to be the winner.

Students were then awarded Endeavour badges to show they are part of the Endeavour Programme, which recognises those who are consistently high achievers and offers both a bespoke curriculum and extended day programme.

Headteacher Mark Pollard, said: “Our Endeavour Programme aims to challenge and stretch students with a range of activities, from tailored trips to parliamentary debates.

“A total of 100 Year 7 and 8 students were extremely enthusiastic about the event and I was impressed with the intelligent questions they asked,” he added.
