DIG OUT your legwarmers and shoulder pads, grab your Sony Walkman – and get ready for Worcester Show, which this year has a 1980s theme!
Worcester City Council’s Community Engagement Team and an army of dedicated volunteers have been busy organising the event.
The team visited Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum’s current I Grew Up 80s exhibition to get in the mood by trying on some 80s gear.
Worcester Show will be held at Pitchcroft on Sunday (August 13) and promises something for everyone. Whether it’s showcasing your talents in the competition classes, sampling local produce, browsing stalls and displays or just sitting back and enjoying the entertainment on stage, this is a real family event.
This year’s show will include a packed line-up of live music, market stalls, fun fair rides, a dog show, sports demos, free activities and plenty of food and drink.
Worcester Mela will bring an extravaganza of Asian arts and entertainment to the event and there will also be a Community Marquee – where local people will share their skills, talents and interests.
There is still time to enter the competition classes too, there are over 140 to choose from, ranging from arts and crafts to flowers, vegetables and cookery. Classes are free to enter and an exhibitor may enter up to two entries in most classes. To find out full details go to www.worcestershow.org.uk/exhibitors.
Other attractions include Worcester Re-enactors, who will have their own encampment featuring cannons, muskets and period costumes. The Guinness World Record holder and running guru, Donato, will be putting visitors through their paces with his very own fitness activity and the Scouts will be demonstrating fire-lighting, tomahawk throwing, and a daring obstacle course.
Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Louis Stephen said: “I’m very much looking forward to this year’s Worcester Show, there’s so much to do and see, whether you are showcasing your talents in the competition classes or just enjoying browsing the stalls and watching the entertainment on stage. It’s always a fantastic family day out!”
The show runs between 10am and 5pm. It remains free of charge, but visitors will be asked to make a donation towards running costs.
This year’s event will have lots of extra parking for bikes, so visitors are welcome to come along on two wheels.
