A RISING TV star took time out of his busy schedule to visit a county children’s charity.
Danny Ligairi, who plays the character Martinez in Ridley Scott’s hit BBC drama Taboo, recently toured Acorns Children’s Hospice, where he pledged to do all he could to support the charity and its work providing care for life limited and life threatened children, in his role as an ambassador.
The 45-year-old, who has local connections to Worcester having been raised in Callow End, became the latest actor from the primetime show to support the Bath Road charity, after co-star and Hollywood A-lister Tom Hardy made a surprise donation earlier this month.
Danny said: “I had a wonderful visit and got to see first-hand the fantastic work that goes on every single day at Acorns.
“What stood out for me most was the personal care the staff put in, you can’t put a price on that. It was great to meet the people who give something back to help children and their families.
“I would encourage people and businesses across the region to get involved by visiting Acorns and seeing the work they do. I feel honoured to be an ambassador and look forward to being a part of Acorns.
“This is about coming home for me, it’s a charity that’s not only based in Worcester, but also in my family’s heart.”
Louise Arnold, director of income generation at Acorns, said: “It was fantastic to welcome Danny to Acorns and show him some of our work and the ways we provide support to the whole family, both in the hospice and the community.
“As a proud Worcester man, Danny has a very strong local connection to Acorns. It was wonderful to see his enthusiasm to support us and help us raise funds and awareness for our work.”
