THE LONG running saga over Worcester City’s proposed new stadium at Perdiswell will continue today when the plans go back before planning chiefs.
Conservative councillors won a vote last month to ask for the proposals for a new home for the ailing club be ditched.
Despite five members of the Labour group on the city council’s planning committee backing the scheme, all five Conservative councillors voted against the plans.
Committee chairman Coun Chris Mitchell used his casting vote to push through the minded to refuse vote.
However, council planning officers have again recommeded the scheme for a 4,400 stadium, six full size pitches and an all-weather surface be approved after considering the reasons for possible refusal.
In his report planning officer Alan Coleman writes: “It is important to note that there may be consequences to the actions that members take should they be required to defend a reason for refusal at appeal.
“Members run a risk for the awarding of partial or even full costs of the applicants’ appeal work – that causes officers significant concern,” he added.
The meeting takes place at the Guildhall from 1.30pm
