A MAJOR £330,000 revamp of sports pitches in Worcester has been completed in a further boost to the city’s sporting offering.
Five new full-sized football pitches and one rugby pitch have been created on City Council owned land adjacent to the Perdiswell Leisure Centre after drainage issues were resolved.
The improvement project will also see the changing rooms adjacent to the pitches refurbished.
Funding for the new pitches has come from the City Council’s Section 106 pot of cash which is money developers give to councils to improve community facilities as part of planning agreements.
Worcester City Football Club youth teams, from U10s through to U17s, are now able to hold their Saturday morning games on the pitches and on weekdays they will be used for PE lessons by Tudor Grange Academy and the Heart of Worcestershire College.
It’s also hoped that league football matches may also be played on pitches on Sundays in the near future.
Mayor of Worcester, Coun Steve Mackay, said: “Ensuring there are high-quality sports facilities in local communities across Worcester is a real priority for Worcester City Council.
“I hope these new pitches will give local people hours of enjoyment as well as exercise in the future.”
