SISTERS born and bred in Suckley are hosting their first-ever Suckley Quarter Marathon on Sunday, May 21 and it is all for charity.
Formerly known as the Griffiths Sisters the four siblings want to give back to the community their family has been part of since their grandfather bought the Chapels Farm back in 1947.
All of them are experienced trail runners and passionate for the outdoors, and one of the sisters, Kate, even completed the UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc) last year in just over 24 hours.
They have now organised a multi-terrain run starting and finishing at the Hop Shed.
The adults’ run will be 6.5 miles, with a finishers medal, and cake for all runners and trophies for first, second and third man and woman, plus a trophy for first ‘Local Lad’ and first ‘Local Lady’.
Prizes have also been donated by the Hop Shed.
The sisters are hoping to raise more than £2,500 to Suckley Primary School and SPACE which is an initiative to bring new life to the Suckley community by converting their church building into a much-needed active hub.
The local community have already shown their support with sponsorships coming from a variety of businesses and individuals to cover some of the costs of the race.
There will also be a children’s race and this can be entered on the day with a minimum donation of £2. All the proceeds from the children’s race will go to the school.
Jacqui Wilson, one of the sisters, said: “It’s lovely to do something for the community you grew up in, the school and the church you went to as a child. Everyone we have talked to about the race have been so enthusiastic, it’s very encouraging!”
