Sharing the miles as trio of new vehicles join Worcester's Car Club

Worcester Editorial 25th Oct, 2023   0

LOCAL residents are now able to sign up to drive more pay-as-you-go cars, as a further three vehicles have been added to Worcester’s Car Club.

The additional vehicles – a Nissan Juke, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Fiesta – have been added to the Enterprise Car Club and are located at the City Council’s Tallow Hill car park (WR5 1JT).

A fourth car is already in operation, based at Worcester Baptist Church on Sansone Walk in the city centre.

As well as helping to reduce to the number of vehicles on the road by lowering overall car ownership, Car Clubs provide huge savings for residents and are ideal for people who only have an occasional need for a vehicle.

According to research conducted in 2022 by the charity Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK), British households can save more than £2,000 a year by switching to car club membership. Car Clubs also help to cut the number of spontaneous journeys of under two miles made by car owners, helping to reduce congestion and emissions.

Coun Karen Lewing, Chair of the City Council’s Environment Committee, said:” It is great to see this scheme being rolled out across Worcester. Car clubs provide convenient and flexible transport for those who may not be able to afford a car of their own, and of course, there are no maintenance, repair or MOT costs for members of the scheme. Encouraging car sharing is a key part of Worcester City Council’s strategy to help cut carbon emissions and improve the environment for all.”

Dan Gursel, Managing Director of Enterprise Car Club said: “We are delighted to be able to expand this service by providing an increased number of modern, low emission vehicles. This will support Worcester City Council’s efforts to reduce emissions and congestion.

“Car club is a great option to meet changing travel patterns for both residents and visitors to the city as well as offering an alternative to private car ownership. It can also help local businesses who may need a vehicle for a few hours or even a day.

“Enterprise Car Club members have access to our complete network of around 1,400 vehicles in more than 220 towns, cities and communities across the UK. This means they can enjoy the convenience of shared mobility not only in Worcester but also when travelling elsewhere in the country.”
