A WORCESTER charity welcomed Labour Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to learn more about how they support disabled people access the city.
Debbie Abrahams MP visited spoke to disabled people themselves about the challenges they face finding work and with the social security system.
The meeting, hosted by Deaf Direct, was organised by Joy Squires, the Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Worcester at the general election.
Mrs Abrahams said:“It was fantastic to be at Deaf Direct in Worcester alongside Coun Squires and hear from a wide range of voices about their experiences of disability.
“We are committed to people-powered politics and we believe future social security policy should be co-produced with deaf and disabled people, carers and service providers.
“Building on our mini manifesto with and for disabled people, Nothing About You, Without You we want to transform our social security system, based on the principles of dignity, independence and support.
Speaking about the visit Coun Squires said: “I work closely with a number of disabilities groups in Worcester, including Deaf Direct, and I want to make sure that the voice of disabled people is heard when it comes to developing policies that are meant to help.
“Debbie Abrahams is a true champion for people with disabilities.
“She listened hard to what everyone had to say about the many challenges they face in their daily lives.”
