Setting their sights on making Christmas special

Worcester Editorial 19th Nov, 2013 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A CITY opticians has set its sights on sending shoeboxes filled with festive treats to members of the Armed Forces ahead of Christmas Day.

People have been urged to take part in the shoebox appeal as Specsavers bids to support serving troops in Afghanistan.

The opticians, on Broad Street, distributed about 75 boxes last year and will be collecting this year until next Wednesday (November 27).

The complete boxes should weigh no more than 1.8kg and Alan Richards, store director, urged people to pack them full of goodies, including sweets, playing cards and pens,

“We are proud to be supporting the Christmas box appeal again this year,” he said.

“We all feel that showing support from home is essential for our troops overseas, particularly at Christmas time when being away from home, family and friends can be extremely difficult.”

Each person who brings a present-filled box into store will automatically be entered into a prize draw.
