Send in the clowns!

Worcester Editorial 1st Apr, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

THERE will be plenty of clowning around in Worcester next week when a new circus comes to the city.

Kakehole and Popol will be bringing their oversized clown boots for their show, Circus Wonderland, which takes place at Worcester Racecourse from next Wednesday (April 9) to Sunday, April 13.

Popol, played by Paul Carpenter, is the UK’s last remaining traditional whiteface clown – bringing the elegant sophisticated foil to the mischief and chaos caused by Kakehole who is the typical auguste clown with his red nose and big boots.

Together they have toured the length and breadth of the UK with various circuses, and twice been named ‘Best Circus Comedy Act’ in the annual circus awards.

“The circus is special because with such a mix of acts there is something to everybody,” Paul said.

“The kids like the clowns and puppets, there are glamorous young ladies for the dads and muscular young men for the mums.

“In spite of all the hard work involved, we all love what we do and believe that the circus is still the greatest show on earth.”

Performance times are weekdays at 4.30pm and 7.30pm, Saturday at 2pm and 5pm, and Sunday at 2pm only. Tickets cost £12 for adults and £10 concessions, or £7 on the first day. For more information contact the box office on 07531 612240.
