Revamped forest school gets pupils into great outdoors

YOUNGSTERS at Oldbury Park Primary School have been enjoying the results of a recent refurbishment to its Forest School area.

Part of Central Region Schools Trust, the school received generous donations from the local community to provide extra resources to make the refresh possible.

Over the past six months, the Forest School area has been kitted out with some new slides, swings and rope ladders for the children to enjoy themselves as they explore the outdoors in all weather conditions.

It also now features a new ‘mud kitchen’ for the children to use their imagination and come up with some messy creations, with concoctions such as mud pies, while getting plenty of fresh air.

Reception pupils use the Forest School and its facilities weekly, with all other year groups enjoying it on a regular basis.

Angela Crawley, executive principal at Oldbury Park Primary School, said: “We’re so pleased to have a new Forest School for all our pupils to enjoy, particularly our younger year groups.

“The children love the new equipment, and we’re very proud to have an even better Forest School provision for them to take part in.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful local community, who do so much to support Oldbury Park; as ever, we’re so grateful for their generosity and cooperation.”

Guy Shears, CEO at Central Region Schools Trust, said: “It’s great to see the children having plenty of fun with their new Forest School equipment. Enjoying outdoor play and having the opportunity to spend time in nature is a really important part of an enriching, well-rounded education.”
