Revamp at Warriors’ training centre

SIXWAYS Stadium will become one of the best rugby training complexes in the country once a major overhaul is completed at Worcester Warriors’ ground.

That was the message from chief executive Jim O’Toole after the rugby club announced plans for a refurbishment of its indoor training centre.

The Aviva Premiership club will install an elite player dressing room for the matchday squad and will also introduce a separate dressing room for use during the week.

The indoor centre will be upgraded to a plyometric 4G surface and will include a running track and sandpit for players undergoing rehabilitation work.

The playing squad will also be given comprehensive backroom support as the redevelopment will also see the unveiling of a cryotherapy unit, ice bath, sauna and resistance pool.

Mr O’Toole said: “We have been clear about our vision to become a successful Aviva Premiership club and this announcement is another significant step towards that goal.

“This redevelopment will give us a rugby facility which is among the best in English club rugby, something which will enable current and future players and backroom staff to perform in a top-class working environment.

“This continues to be a very exciting time for everyone involved with Worcester Warriors as we look to take this club forward both on and off the pitch.”

Elsewhere in the redevelopment project, there will be a revamp of both the referee and trauma rooms, while the away dressing room will also be moved and upgraded.

The coaches will move to new offices, while the strength and conditioning department will have a new working space.

Throughout the duration of the work, which is due to be completed in early October, players will use temporary changing and gym rooms at Sixways.
