Residents and businesses in Worcester invited to complete climate change survey

GREEN-minded residents and businesses are being invited to have their say on how Worcester can prepare for a sustainable future.

As part of its ongoing commitment to tackling climate change, Worcester City Council is refreshing its ten-year Environmental Sustainability Strategy, which was approved in 2020 and runs through to 2030.

Among the plan’s achievements to date is the introduction of the Beryl bike share scheme in Worcester, plans to install electric cremators at Astwood Crematorium and proposals to install solar panels at Perdiswell Leisure Centre later this year.

At the halfway point of the strategy, the council is preparing to update its plans and wants to hear from the community about the key actions it should prioritise to reduce the city’s carbon footprint and ensure that Worcester is resilient to climate change.

The city council’s environment spokesperson Coun Zoe Cookson said: “The recent flooding of the River Severn is a stark reminder that we need to do more to battle climate change.

“Responses to this survey will help guide our Environmental Sustainability Strategy, telling us what should be included and prioritised.

“I encourage both residents and businesses to take part in the survey at www.worcester.gov.uk/voiceit.

“Your feedback will ensure that the strategy meets the needs and aspirations of local residents and businesses and share how we tackle the climate emergency and other environmental pressures.”

The survey, which runs for four weeks, aims to gather input from both residents and businesses.

For residents, key themes in the survey include renewable energy technology, active travel, and biodiversity.

Businesses are invited to share their views on how the council can support them in decarbonisation efforts and help them address the risks posed by climate change.

The survey will run until Sunday February 16.
