A COUNTY sports charity is inviting Worcester residents to its ‘fight night’ in a bid to raise funds towards young sporting talent.
CG5, which was founded to promote participation in sport, will host a K1 and Muay Thai boxing event this Friday (May 12) at Sixways Stadium, where Worcester Warriors flanker Sam Betty and John Clark, a two-time winner of Britain’s Natural Strongest Man, will make their boxing debuts.
CG5 takes its name from former Warriors lock Craig Gillies, who is a trustee at the charity, and his number five jersey. It has awarded an array of sporting grants to teams and teenagers since being established in 2015.
Dan Richards, a trustee of CG5 said: “Our fight night promises to be another great event with lots of local talent on show.
“More than anything, we hope people come along to support CG5 and the people we’re backing to win. We’re now approaching our second anniversary with almost £16,000 awarded in sporting grants to young people here in Worcestershire.
“During that time we’ve managed to make a difference and help people realise their sporting dreams. Nights like this are vital in our fund-raising efforts.”
Sam Betty added: “I’m very excited to be stepping into the ring. It’s something I’ve always thought about and I’m glad to be doing it for such a great cause.”
The event starts at 6pm and tickets cost £25 per person and £300 for a table of ten.
