A FITNESS-mad Bath Road business student is planning to run four marathons in four days to raise funds for a children’s charity.
Alister Brown is taking on the challenge in August in aid of Variety, which helps disabled and disadvantaged children.
The 24-year-old is currently completing a Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Worcester, which he has studied for part-time while working full-time at Brierley Hill-based Alloy Wire International.
“Everyone thinks I’m crazy,” he said.
“Even though I have only ever done one marathon before, I feel confident that with enough training I can complete this. I really wanted to challenge myself, and this certainly is going to do that.”
Alister added: “The company I work for has done a lot of charity work and this particular charity approached us and asked if there was anything we would like to get involved in.
“I looked at the list of events put forward and thought they all seemed too sane, and I wanted to do something a bit more wild and push myself to the limit, as it was for charity.
“So I looked online and found the Quadrat on Challenge.
“It is described as Ireland’s most unique four day event. I’ll cover 105 miles taking in the scenic Irishwomen along the Wild Atlantic Way. The terrain will be rugged, sometimes hilly and I have no doubt the coastline will get pretty windy.”
Alister, who competes regularly in decathlons, running and cycling, said he was having to ramp up his training programme in the coming weeks to prepare. He is hoping to raise £5,000 for charity.
