Playing the long game

Worcester Editorial 2nd May, 2018   0

A WORLD record attempt for the longest ever rugby match will be held at Worcester Warriors’ Stadium this weekend.

The match is being sponsored by Redditch estate agents Vizors which is supplying match officials with shirts.

The charity game could enter the Guinness Book of Records for the longest-ever-recorded match.

As well as the attempt by players and officials to enter the history books, it will also raise funds for two national charities.

The Firefighters Charity, which supports injured firefighters, will play a team representing Scotty’s Little Soldiers for the families of service personnel who have lost their lives.

The previous record attempt for longest continuous game of rugby is 31.5 hours.

Players and officials hope to reach at least 32 hours which will see them playing long into tonight and tomorrow, to clinch the record.

Mark Wainwright, Managing Director at Vizors, said: “We were delighted to support these two superb charities and encourage everyone to please donate generously.”

James Ranford from Bromsgrove is the organiser and referee for the event, said: “We were so pleased when Mark and Vizors agreed to offer sponsorship.

“It means we can ensure 100 per cent of donations go directly to both charities.”

Entry to the game is free and kick-off is 10am on Friday, with the match expected to finish at 6pm Saturday
