PICTURE SPECIAL: Floods hit Worcester yet again

THE RAIN came down and, once again, Worcester’s flood waters came up.

As Storm Ashley battered much of the country over the weekend, locally river levels across the River Severn and River Avon quickly began to rise, resulting in significant flooding in the city.

Worcester Racecourse and the surrounding areas were once again submerged in water in what has become a familiar sight to residents and leading to the inevitable traffic chaos.

Worcestershire County Council has previously pledged to introduce measures to mitigate future flooding in the worst affected areas of Worcester and keep the transport network moving.

Coun Simon Geraghty visited the city following Storm Henrik back in January.

He said at the time: “During our recent visits we were able to see first-hand the devastation caused by last week’s flood, and listen to the residents and businesses affected.

“We also heard about their experiences of previous flood events.

“I admire their resilience at this tough time and their determination to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

“With flooding occurring more frequently we will continue to work with all the agencies involved to seek to mitigate the impact of future flood events.”
