Persistent cough? Doctors say don't delay in seeing your GP

Worcester Editorial 22nd Aug, 2021   0

DOCTORS are urging anyone with symptoms of lung cancer to come forward to their GPs to have these symptoms investigated.

They say a cough which lasts for three weeks or more, and is not caused by Covid-19, can be a sign of lung cancer.

If it is cancer, finding it early makes it more treatable and can save lives.

Dr Ian Tait, chair of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: ‘GPs across both counties are offering even more appointments to their patients than before the pandemic.

“While a persistent cough might be nothing serious, it needs to be investigated to see if it is a symptom of lung cancer. As with all cancers, finding it earlier improves the likelihood of successful treatment.

“Don’t hesitate to get in touch with your GP who will arrange a face-to-face appointment if necessary.’
