One-year term for possessing and supplying

A ST JOHN’S man has been sentenced to 52 weeks in prison for possessing and supplying Class B drugs.

Shaun Lisseman, of Malvern Road, pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates’ Court last Friday (April 10) for possessing cannabis and intending to sell Mephedrone.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, told the court the 26-year-old was seen by police on January 10 make an exchange that appeared to be drug related.

They followed him to nearby address and knocked on the door to carry out a spot check and found the cannabis on him.

He was arrested and told officers that he also had more drugs at his home.

Officers searched the property and found Mephedrone worth between £590 and £950 along with a phone that contained messages relating to drug deals.

Defence solicitor, Joanne Outhwaite, said Lisseman was glad he was caught by the police before the situation went nay further.

She said: “This started to spiral out of control and he was getting in deeper than he wanted to. He is a drug user himself and that is why he got into this.”

Lisseman was already in breach of suspended sentence for ABH and was therefore ordered to serve that 26-week jail term as well as another 26-weeks for this offence.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury said: “The offence is possession with the intent to supply and it is quite clear that this was planned and as you as much as admitted it to the police and described it as being caught red handed.”

He also ordered the defendant to pay a £100 victim surcharge upon release.
