THE ENVIRONMENT Agency responded to an oil spill in a canal near George Street yesterday (Monday).
Manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Dave Throup, posted on Twitter they were working with the Canals and River Trust to protect the wildlife.
An Environment Agency spokesperson said:
“Since yesterday our officers have been working closely with the Canal & River Trust, local wildlife charities and other organisations to respond to an oil spill on the Worcester & Birmingham canal near George Street, Worcester.
“As part of that work we are conducting investigations to trace the source of the pollution, which has affected a stretch of approximately 500m. Thankfully there has been no significant impact on the environment.
“If members of the public spot pollution on rivers or canals they can telephone our 24 incident hotline 0800 80 70 60.”
