LUCKY winners of Worcester Cathedral’s inaugural painting competition have been revealed.

A total of 60 colourful portraits depicting King John’s diverse character were exhibited in the Cathedral’s north quire aisle last month.

After much deliberating the winners were announced as Roger Ward from Herefordshire and Tibor Labancz and Karen Stone, both from Worcester who received cash prizes of £150, £75 and £25 respectively.

Youngsters Bibi Rozier from St Gabriel’s with St Mary’s CE Primary School, Olivia Miyoshi Hankinson from Grimley and Holt CE Primary School and Kelvin Koker from Old Swinford Hospital School, all received art vouchers to the value of £75, £50 and £25 respectively.




The vouchers were donated by the online art materials supplier Great Art.

TALENTED basketball athletes and coaches are being invited to show off their skills at Worcester Wolves’ ‘Open Day’.


In partnership with the University of Worcester Basketball Programme, Worcester Wolves are welcoming potential student-athletes and coaches to the University of Worcester Arena on Wednesday, December 14.

All participants will get an insight into the programme and there will be a presentation from the Wolves and University of Worcester head coach, Paul James.

The event starts at midday.

MALVERN Male Voice Choir are to host two Christmas concert on Saturday, December 10.

Joined by the St Matthias Primary School choir, the first event takes place at The Church of the Ascension on Somers Park Avenue.

And the group will then perform with St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Choir at St Joseph’s Catholic Church on Newtown Road from 7.30pm.

Tickets for the concerts cost £5 each and are available by calling 01886 833957 or by emailing [email protected].

Those aged 18 and under can attend free of charge.

WORCESTER residents are being invited to a festive ‘Peace and Friendship Party’ at a city church.

St Martin’s Church, in association with Worcester Mosques and the Rotary Club of Worcester South, is hosting the free community event this Saturday (December 10).

Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available and children are invited to make Christmas tree decorations.

The event will run from midday to 2pm.

Donations will go to Worcester Foodbank.

A WORCESTER youngster has raised £300 for charity after completing a 5k ‘Mud Bath’.

Daniel Larder recently completed the muddy challenge to raise funds for Megan Baker House, who provide conductive education services for children and adults with special educational needs and physical disabilities.

The 13-year-old, who finished tenth in the males under-20 category and 21st overall out of 331 runners, ran in aid of his brother who has dyspraxia and is cared for by the charity.
